Mother Goose"We are craftsmen making art... popular culture is another thing... isn't it?" Mother Goose hail from Helsinki, Finland and have been together with the same line-up now for a while. They play around 20-30 shows a year back home, and regularly take the stage with the likes of Damo Suzuki (ex CAN) amongst others. Despite their sharp, beautiful, rough but melancholic music appearing on several vinyl 7" singles, split singles and compilation albums in Europe, USA and Australia, Mother Goose are still fairly unknown. Even so, their healthy recorded output has made them firm fanzine favourites and seen them become adored by student radio across the globe, to find themselves on the playlists of such notable's as Jimmy Possession. Their music can go from buzzsaw guitar pop to droning slowcore, touching on everything in between. Playing great indie pop, some tracks are very "rock 'n' roll" where others are a lot more depressing or quirky. They seem to have covered every range of independent music yet still managed to keep a very distinctive sound.
Among the musical favourites of the members of the group, such names as Talking Heads, Sonic Youth and PIL are mentioned alongside The Fall and My Bloody Valentine to name just a few. Other notable achievements are the group's self released album 'High Anxiety' (1996), and the album 'Too Many Tintins' released in 1994 by Mute on the 'Blast First' imprint. Mother Goose have come a long way, and although they are not motivated to reach for the stars, they have a totally unshakeable confidence in their own style... and so do we... Their debut EP on Seriously Groovy 'Little Richard' was released in July 2000 and immediately picked up on by Steve Lamacq who broadcast "Nag" on his BBC Radio 1 Evening Session show, to be later followed by John Kennedy at Xfm, London's alternative radio station. Add this to successful UK tours in October 2000 and May 2001, a single 'Village' and the full length album 'Junior Magic' which picked up rave reviews from the likes of The Guardian, Get Rhythm and RockSound, together with airplay from John Peel and the stars may well fall on them. Mother Goose will be back in the studio in 2005 to record a new album, but in the mean time there are plans to release a retrospective album, tentatively titled 'Obvious Works'. >>>>> Official Band Web Site
