VentralVentral play loud indie rock music, and have done things like playing out of the back of a van at the Reading Festival, wearing womens clothes and doing gigs in London and the South Coast for causes as diverse as supporting Surfers Against Sewage, having good ol fashion fun and feeding the bands all-consuming ego-mania. Ventral have been described as playing "...belligerent drums..." and "... dentist drill guitars..." and sounding "...a bit like Therapy with Mark from The Levellers on vocals..." (KEVIN MAIDMENT) ...but the band hotly deny any such allegations, preferring instead to describe themselves simply as "Marvellous... and utterly unique". Live, Ventral, create quite an impact... "Since their last appearance at the Hot House, Ventral and the Liverpudlian headliners Scorpio Rising have been flexing their guitar-scraping muscles. As soon as Ventral touched their guitars a hurricane seemed to blow up..." (SUSAN WILKINSON). Ventral became a "serious" band in 1994 when they recorded "Sloth" a tape EP which quickly sold out at gigs and led to their deal with Seriously Groovy... "There is a darker more sinister feel to their music... the debut six-track EP "Sloth" captures both the energy and the darkness, creating 30 minutes of sheer brilliance" (JAMIE KIMBER). Ventral have also appeared on several compilation albums including an anti-Criminal Justice Bill compilation and a tribute to The Stranglers. Their debut album "Strap Atom" was released in the UK during August 1996, through Seriously Groovys Sofa label. Its now available in no less than 5 European countries. It features 11 stunning tracks from a band who will undoubtedly continue to evolve and refine what they do, to provide us with a series of all time classic records. Ventral are not to be missed.
